As the football season continues, seven Comal ISD seniors are guaranteed to play in the new year in the San Antonio Sports All-Star Football Game in the Alamodome.

In its third year, the Comal ISD Bass Fishing Club is continuing its winning streak in the Hill Country Division of the Texas High School Bass Association tournament circuit. The team brought home the Overall School Champion trophy on Oct. 16.

For 74 years, a select group of rising seniors from across the United States participate annually in a government leadership program which helps develop civic leadership and pride in American citizenship.

More students are finding their passions through Comal ISD's Intramural Sports Program. From basketball, volleyball and soccer to sport stacking, fencing and bass fishing, the Intramural options provide students with opportunities to learn a sport, gain skills and be a part of a team.

Two sisters from Freiheit Elementary along with their siblings spent Saturday, Sept. 11, honoring the lives lost on that same day 20 years ago. Donations from their lemonade stand are going to the Comal County Sheriff's K-9 unit.

One student's legacy continues to inspire students, teachers and community members to fight for a cure for childhood cancer as well as raise awareness of the disease. Her Hero Fund through the St. Baldrick's Foundation recently hit a milestone and is truly making a difference.

Wearing gold in September has become a tradition throughout Comal ISD as students, teachers and staff members shine a light on Childhood Cancer Awareness often raising funds for childhood cancer research. Part of this tradition is honoring district students who have battled the disease and continue to do so every day.

Comal ISD is hosting an informational recruiting event for local business professionals who may be interested in coaching and mentoring student entrepreneurs.

School spirit was on full display during the August Garden Ridge Market Days' Back-to-School Community Festival and Supply Drive with more than $2,000 in donations and school supplies going to Comal ISD area campuses.

Once more, Comal ISD's visual arts program has earned the District of Distinction Award, placing it among the top 4 percent of districts in the state recognized for their commitment to integrating visual arts into the curriculum and inspiring creativity both in the classroom, the community and beyond.
