June 8, 2023 - Four Comal ISD athletes received top honors at the San Antonio Express-News Second Annual Alamo City High School Sports Awards on June 7 at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Sabrina Taber, a 2023 graduate of Smithson Valley High School, was named the girls soccer Athlete of the Year; Savannah Schaaf, a 10th-grade student from Pieper High School, was named girls wrestling Athlete of the Year; Presley Bolado, a 10th-grade student from Canyon High School, was named girls golf Athlete of the Year; and Haley Carmona, a 2023 graduate of CHS, was named the girls individual softball Athlete of the Year.
Taber received a $750 scholarship from TSAOG Orthopaedics & Spine while Schaaf, Bolado and Carmona each received a $200 gift card courtesy of H-E-B.
In addition to these honorees, SVHS head girls soccer coach Jason Adkins was named Coach of the Year by the Express-News and a finalist for the Alamo City Coach of the Year award.
